We know you have questions--after all, Cafe 180 is a fresh approach to lunch. Here are the most common we hear:
Sure. Many of our dishes can be prepared soy, nut, gluten, or dairy free. Specify when placing your order. Keep in mind that we prepare and serve food containing wheat and allergens, however, so cross contamination is a possibility.
Many of our dishes are naturally vegetarian (try the Grilled Mediterranean Pita, it's divine!). While we don't specifically prepare vegan dishes, many of our salads can be prepared without animal products. And our vegetable soup is naturally vegan.
We are so proud of this! In the summer months, much of our produce comes from local, organic gardens in our neighborhood. Yep, individual and community gardens from right here in Englewood. Of course we depend on other producers and do our best to keep our menu in line with the seasons.
Yep. Our patio has been described as charming and offers great people watching opportunities in our South Broadway neighborhood.
Fresh-baked cookies, complete with the fresh-baked cookie smell. Mmmmm, mmm!
Don't feel bad. It's a legitimate question. Our business model might be different, by we're a restaurant--first. Like every other restaurant in Colorado, we are licensed and follow all rules and regulations by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. All volunteers are properly matched to the function that best suits their abilities and not everyone is working in the kitchen - many people are working outside or doing things like washing windows, wiping tables, dishes, etc.
Every person benefits from a delicious, healthy meal. But we don't give our food away for free. Our guests have three choices:
1) Make a donation that covers our costs; 2) Make a donation that covers costs and pays it forward; or 3) Sign up to volunteer for an hour to cover the cost of the meal.
Due to the generosity of our community, our average donation amount is about $10 per meal. This allows us to provide meals for those who need to exchange time for their meal.
In order to cover our costs and encourage a dignified exchange, we suggest that you make a minimum donation of $3 or volunteer your time in exchange for your meal.
The record goes to Wes Medford of Englewood, a 16-year-old volunteer who, after volunteering for 2 weeks, was inspired to donate his hard earned paycheck of $110.
Approximately one out of three people who stop by for lunch volunteer at our restaurant as payment for their meal.
